Phillip Goff Colloquium
The Yale Math Department and Yale FDS are hosting a talk by Dr. Phillip Solomon on March 28, 2024, at 4:00pm in Kline Tower room 1327. Additionally, all are invited to a reception in the math lounge (8th floor) at 3:30 PM prior.
Phillip Atiba Solomon (f.k.a. Goff) is the Carl I. Hovland Professor of African American Studies and Professor of Psychology at Yale University. He received his AB from Harvard and PhD in Psychology from Stanford. He is a national leader and pioneer in understanding racial bias through a scientific lens. Dr. Solomon co-founded and runs the Center for Policing Equity (CPE), the world’s largest research and action think tank on race and policing. The talk will be on understanding one critical question: when does math help and when does it hurt vulnerable communities? Dr. Solomon will engage with the current trend of predictive analytics and AI and discuss when mathematical and statistical tools are harmful.
